Gokyo and Everest

2in1

Duration 16 days
Max Elevation 5 643 m / 18513 ft
Start point Lukla
End point Lukla

This trip to Everest is more technically advanced, and therefore more adventurous! It covers all the “usual” attractions in the area, such as Namche Bazar, Tenboche Monastery, Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp, and also includes visiting the highest freshwater lake system in the world - Gokyo lake, crosses the pass Cho La Pass (5,330 m). There are several long days in this trekking, from 8 to 9 walking hours, but most of them we will hike for 5-6 hours. This is a terrific trek for hardy and hungry for adventures!

Real adventures, forests and waterfall

The journey begins on the day you arrive to Kathmandu. We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the booked hotel. This is Day 1, a day of rest after the flight and moral preparation for the upcoming trekking. You can take a walk around evening Kathmandu, take a look at souvenir shops for further buying gifts for friends and have dinner at a local restaurant to appreciate Nepalese cuisine.

On this page you will find the information you need about the trekking schedule, about equipment that you need to take with you and you can download a list of equipment prepared for your convenience. You will also see what is included and not included in the price of trekking, what mountain sickness is and whether it is worth fearing, where we will spend nights and what to eat and drink on the trek, and many other usefulnesses. If you have questions, be free contact us at any moment!

A flight to Lukla and back provides the maximum amount of time in the mountains. From here also classic trek to Everest Base Campstarts, as well as our trip.

After landing in Lukla, we will start the trek with a small descent to Phadking, where we will meet various Buddhist sights along the way, keep the camera ready!

As an alternative to flying to Lukla Airport, you may consider a route to Everest Base Camp from Jiri - that journey begins with a bus ride, and then you make most of the way on foot, like the pioneers of trekking in the Himalayas.

Day 3 Phakding to Namche
A whole day of trekking will lead us to the beginning of the Sagarmatha National Park and end in Namche Bazar (3440 m), the central trade settlement of the region. Explore the village and stock up on the necessary snacks for the next few days. Do not forget to visit the market if you are there on Saturday!

Acclimatization is required and we will conduct Day 4 of the travel in Namche Bazar to recover and get used to the altitude. From here you can take a short but vivid hike to Sianboche for the first wide view of peaks of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku.

Day 5: hiking to Dole
Here the route of our trekking separates from the classic Everest BC trek and heads northwest up the Dudh-Koshi valley towards Dole. You can take some amazing photos of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam crossing the ridge.

Day 6: Dole to Machhermo
A fairly steep trekking day will lift you another 500 meters along the way to Machhermo. Remember to take your eyes off the trail to see the yaks and the best views of Cho Oyu and the surrounding peaks during your trek!

Day 7: Machhermo to Gokyo
We set off for the long-awaited lakes - you cannot miss them with their amazing turquoise water, which contrasts sharply with the landscape of the region. After the third lake, we get to the village of Gokyo, where we spend a night.

Day 8: Gokyo Ri and then a trip to Thagnak
We have to wake up early to see the dawn on Gokyo Ri. From an altitude of just under 5500 meters, a beautiful view of Everest, Lhotse and Cho Oyu opens. Keep your fingers crossed for fine weather! We will descent later that morning, and then cross the Ngozumpa glacier before heading to Thagnak for the night.

Day 9: Thagnak to Cho Dzongla via CholaPass
Get ready for a long day passing one of the “Three passes” - Cho La. Take your time climbing the rocky path above the pass, reaching 5420 at the highest point. From here you will hike to the glacier on the other side of Cho La and go down to Dzongla.

Day 10: hiking to Lobuche
Here we join the classic route to Everest BC, passing through Feriche and Tengboche, where you will find the largest monastery in the area. On the way from Feriche to Lobuche you will see many monuments to the Sherpas and climbers who died climbing Mount Everest. We will spend this night in Lobuche.

Day 11: Lobuche to Gorakshep ( Everest Base Camp during the day)
We will spend the day in the arms of the Khumbu glacier, while we get to Gorak Shep and, ultimately, to the base camp of Everest. Tourist groups are usually not allowed to stay in the base camp for a long time, so take the opportunity to feel the noise and excitement of potential Everest climbers who are preparing for the main jerk to the summit (if you visit it in the climbing season - April / May). Then we will go back to Gorak Shep for the night, enjoying a beautiful view of the famous Khumbu icefall.

Day 12: Climb to Cala Pattar, and then hike to Feriche.
We will climb Kala Pattar to enjoy breathtaking views of Everest and the surrounding peaks. We will descent the same day in Feriche, following the classic route.

Day 13: Return to Namche
We will hike to Namche Bazar via Tengboche. Keep your camera with you when you walk through the slopes covered with rhododendron - a great snapshot is guaranteed.

Day 14: Hike to Lukla
We finish the trip by descent to Lukla through the Dudh-Koshi valley. Get ready for such a necessary and long-awaited rest and, possibly, several drinks to celebrate an unforgettable trip!

Day 15: Flight to Kathmandu
We fly to Kathmandu early in the morning.

Day 16: Transfer to Kathmandu Airport
Flight home

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Water

Is tea included in meals? Or is it paid separately, like water?

I found that there are water bottles with a built-in filter, or it’s easier to throw chlorine dioxide tablets into water. And where to get this water on the route?

Answer

Tea is included in the breakfast.

You can buy water on the route - in tea houses and where the guide tells you.

Water needs to be cleaned. You can use filters, you can use tablets. 1 tablet per litre of water. For example, if you drink 3 litres of water per day, then you have to get 3 * 17 = 51tablets

Water purification tablets can also be bought in Kathmandu.

2. Hygiene

Inconvenient, but important question. You need to drink a lot of water, transitions between guesthouses are about 3-4 hours. What to do if I want to use the toilet? Use bushes?

 Answer

The route will come across big and small teahouses. You can use toilet there.

In any case, do not hesitate to ask a guide.

3. Kathmandu

Will I have time to walk around Kathmandu? Will the guide accompany me?

Answer

In Kathmandu there will be time on the day of arrival. Then you can take a walk, change money (there will be no exchangers on the route). By the way, changing money is more profitable in exchangers. Banks take merciless interest, commissions, ATMs even worse. Therefore, upon arrival, ask our managers where the best nearest exchanger is, they will tell you everything.

Your guide is a mountain guide. But if you want, we can arrange a guide for you for Kathmandu. It will cost $ 25-30 per day depending on the number of places you want to visit.
